Princess Azuréa and Malyor the Malayan Tiger

Behind Kaläru Waterfall, there is a passage. And behind the passage, a valley that no one at the palace knows about.

Azuréa has long blue hair and amber-colored eyes, but above all, she has a sketchbook and a habit of noticing what others do not see. One very hot morning, she follows the Talar River to the waterfall and spots Malyor, a Malayan tiger. She comes back the next day. Then the day after that. Without ever getting closer — she observes, draws, and waits.

That is how she eventually discovers the passage behind the curtain of water, and the valley it shelters: springs, rare plants, wild animals, and Malyor as its silent guardian. Until the day merchants decide to extract the precious stones from the cliffs surrounding the waterfall.

Azuréa has neither an army nor powers. She has her drawings, her observations, and what she has understood about how the valley works. That will be enough to convince her father.

What the child gains

• The art of observation — Azuréa draws, takes notes, and compares. Her method is that of a naturalist, not a heroine.
• Respect for wild animals — she keeps her distance and lets the tiger decide whether to come closer. Nothing is tamed by force.
• What an ecosystem is — damaging a single place puts the water, plants, and species throughout an entire valley at risk.
• Standing up for a conviction — with arguments and evidence, in the face of adults who make the decisions.
