For several weeks, a black panther has appeared every night beneath the village homes and let out strange cries. The villagers want to barricade the entrances.
Argenthia, with silver hair and turquoise eyes, lives in Selvaran, a village built among the immense trees of the tropical forest. She watches the animal for several nights in a row and realizes something no one else has noticed: the cries sound more like a call than a threat.
One night, she goes down into the forest alone and meets Vélunor, the panther with golden eyes. Following her to an old abandoned part of the village, she discovers the reason: Vélunor's cub is trapped beneath a collapsed platform, and its mother cannot reach it. Argenthia must then convince Selvaran's council to organize a rescue—and afterward, to adapt the forest so that no animal becomes trapped again.
What children gain from it
- Observe before judging — Argenthia seeks to understand instead of giving in to the village's fear.
- Empathy — troubling behavior can hide distress.
- The courage to act — going down into the forest, then standing up for her story before adults.
- Living alongside wildlife — we can adapt our environment instead of excluding animals from it.
